When enterprises and particularly start-ups use technology well, it can be a tool used to create new business opportunities and business strategies. It can support a new, disruptive business model allowing start-ups to find a blue ocean and avoid the red. Technology alone will not deliver these outcomes. It's important to know the game you're in, what are the implied rules and constraints of the industry and are those constraints real? Porter's Five Forces could be used to help map that.Technology can help manage value chains, reduce cycle-time and be used to improve service and product delivery resulting in greater customer satisfaction. I like to focus on enabling people and making processes reproducible because this is a path to sustainable competitive advantage.Through my career I had worked for great managers and poor managers and I decided I wanted to be great at leadership, so I read books, took opportunities when presented and completed a Masters of Business Administration to hone this skill. After many leadership, management and coaching roles, I can say, with confidence, that my strengths lie in fostering innovation and a growth mindset in the team, helping people see the bigger picture and the organisation around them.
