o Delivers civil legal representation and advice to low income clients residing in the nineteen-county service area of Central Minnesota Legal Services’ St. Cloud and Willmar offices, on issues of child custody, marital dissolution, state and federal public benefits, housing, and other poverty law related issues. o Manages two law offices comprising of three staff attorneys, two support staff, and two Volunteer Attorney Program Coordinators. Responsibilities include day to day operations management pursuant to Legal Services Corporation requirements, long term project management, hiring of new staff including volunteers and interns, annual performance reviews, and supervision of legal work.o Supervises the Volunteer Attorney Program administered by Central Minnesota Legal Services across the nineteen-county service area by working with the Coordinators in reviewing cases for placement, evaluating the program’s policies and client services, and engaging in volunteer recruitment tasks.o Supervised and managed the Central Minnesota Legal Services Self-Help Center located at the Stearns County Law Library.

o Provided direct legal representation to low income clients residing in the ten-county service area of Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Willmar office. o Represented clients in civil litigation matters including child custody, marital dissolution, orders for protection, unlawful detainer defense, rent escrow and Emergency Tenant Remedies Act petitions, unlawful lock outs, denial or termination of public benefits, and senior law issues. o Oversaw a rural law office of five attorneys and four support staff, including daily supervision, hiring of new staff, and legal supervision of staff attorneys. o Engaged in relationship building with the community across the office’s service area by conducting outreach sessions introducing our program to bar associations, senior living facilities, victim’s rights organizations, and domestic violence / sexual assault survivor support organizations.

o Provided direct legal representation to indigent clients residing on or near the Leech Lake, White Earth, and Red Lake Indian reservations on civil litigation matters in tribal court and Minnesota District Court. Legal issues included parent representation in child protection proceedings, housing eviction defense, and civil/regulatory violation defenses such as conservation and traffic citations.o Conducted brief service clinics with clients by reviewing forms, petitions, and motions with clients, advising on court procedure, and assisting clients with legal research. o Was Tribal Coordinator for the Minnesota Network for Legal Assistance to Victims of Crime, a program that provided full wraparound services to victims of crime in Indian Country. Assisted with the research and development phase of the project, sat on a tribal wraparound group tasked with developing a model for implementation, and reached out to the various tribal communities in Minnesota about the project.

o Drafted petitions, motions, and proposed orders while representing White Earth Indian Child Welfare in Tribal Courts as well as Minnesota and other state courts as guaranteed by the Indian Child Welfare Act. o Worked with tribal and state agencies on matters of guardianship, civil commitment, and child protection, including gathering supporting documentation, drafting petitions, and appearing in court on behalf of the agencies. o Revised and reviewed White Earth Tribal Code with a team of attorneys, including the White Earth Child/Family Protection Code, the Juvenile Justice Code, and work to implement the White Earth Law and Order Code. o Was an active member of the White Earth Family Dependency Treatment Court, Juvenile Wellness Court, and State/Tribal Child Protection Team.
